Compass

Privacy notice

Compass holds a detailed picture of your household finances. This notice explains what the beta product collects, where information goes, and the controls available to you.

Version 2026-08-09

The short version

Compass does not sell your personal information and does not ask for bank passwords, brokerage credentials, wallet private keys or seed phrases.

Information is stored in your Compass account. Some features send only the information needed for that feature to named service providers. See the complete provider breakdown.

Who is responsible for your information

The operator of the Compass beta is acting as data controller. Its full legal name and postal address have not yet been published in this notice. That is a known beta gap: the controller identity must be confirmed here before inviting participants. The closed, known-contact beta is operating under an internal assessment pending professional UK privacy review; public recruitment or monetisation must wait for that review.

In either case, privacy questions and rights requests go to privacy@compass.jencos.co.uk.

Information Compass holds

  • Your name, email address, authentication records and security-session information.
  • The accounts, balances, holdings, public wallet addresses and household labels you enter.
  • Snapshots, goals, assumptions, briefings, decisions and other content created through the product.
  • Operational audit events such as successful changes, timestamps, IP address and browser information.
  • Optional, consented product-usage analytics that deliberately excludes financial figures and free text.

Onboarding screenshots are processed for the current conversation and are not saved in the Compass database. Your text-only onboarding draft is kept in the current browser tab until you apply it, clear it or close the tab.

How it is used

Compass uses this information to calculate and explain your household financial position, provide requested planning illustrations, deliver features you enable, secure the service, diagnose faults and understand aggregate product usage.

Compass provides observations and illustrations, not regulated investment, tax, mortgage or legal advice.

Lawful bases

The current basis mapping is:

  • Contract, and steps you ask Compass to take before a contract, for account access and the core portfolio, briefing and planning service.
  • Consent for optional device analytics, household comparison and optional email briefings where consent is the appropriate basis. You can withdraw without affecting earlier processing.
  • Legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and reliable, preventing misuse, diagnosing faults and retaining limited operational audit records, balanced against the sensitivity of whole-net-worth data.
  • Legal obligation or legal claims where a record must be kept or used for that purpose.

This is the draft mapping used for the closed, known-contact beta. It and the associated consent/legitimate-interest records require professional review before public recruitment or monetisation.

Household and partner information

If you add a partner’s name or finances, only do so when you are entitled to use that information and they understand it will be processed through Compass. The “mine”, “partner” and “joint” labels are planning labels, not evidence of legal ownership.

Privacy-protected household comparison

Participation is optional. If you opt in, Compass uses your selected broad age group, verified-email status and latest net worth snapshot to create a comparison with other opted-in households in that age group.

New accounts wait 30 days and new consent waits 7 days before becoming eligible. Compass excludes your own household and releases a result only when at least 50 other eligible households have a snapshot from the past 30 days.

Results use broad position bands, a banded cohort size and a median rounded to £50,000; exact peer counts, percentiles and another household's figure are not shown. Once released, the shared age-band cohort and all of its leave-one-out results stay fixed for that calendar month to reduce repeated-query inference, including after withdrawal.

You can withdraw in Settings. Withdrawal clears your saved age group and stops your household contributing to future monthly cohorts; it does not recalculate a cohort already released to other households.

Optional product analytics

Analytics are off until you allow them on a device. Compass uses a self-hosted Umami service and disables automatic page views, sending only deliberately named product events after filtering route identifiers, financial values, free text, account names and other sensitive fields.

Each event replaces the browser URL with a redacted pathname and removes the page title, referrer and URL query string from Umami's default payload. Normal network metadata still reaches the operator-managed endpoint.

Your choice is normally stored in that browser. If browser storage is unavailable, the choice lasts only for the current page visit. You can change it in Settings at any time.

Hosting, providers and international processing

Core Compass account data and the self-hosted analytics service run on an operator-managed IONOS VPS in its London, United Kingdom hosting region.

Named AI, email, sign-in, market-data and public-blockchain providers receive the limited data described on the Data and AI page. Their processing may take place outside the UK.

During the closed beta, the operator is completing the provider-location and contract register. Before public recruitment or monetisation, the operator must document data-processing terms and any required UK adequacy decision, International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum and transfer risk assessment. This notice does not claim safeguards that have not yet been evidenced.

Retention and deletion

Your portfolio and user-created content remain while your account is active. Expired verification records are removed periodically; operational audit events and briefing-delivery records are retained for up to 90 days. When you delete your account, Compass removes the user-linked data held in the live application database.

Restricted backup copies, where present, expire through their normal rotation rather than being individually edited. Information may be retained where required to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Your choices and rights

You can download a machine-readable copy of your Compass data, withdraw from household comparison, disable email briefings, refuse analytics on a device, or permanently delete your account from Settings.

UK data-protection rights may also include access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, depending on the circumstances.

If a concern is not resolved, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
